Piano by Pattern Review:
Piano By Pattern offers an interesting way to learn to play the piano. Rather then have students study remembering notes or chord manipulation students go through narrated lessons. These are primarily audio lessons. The only video included is a partially animated keyboard that lights up according to the keys being played so students can see what the correct keys are they should be playing.
The are two bonuses with the course. One is an e-book called Read Music Now. It give a good overview of notes and symbols. It's a pretty short book but it is well put together and helpful. The other bonus is an audio narration Secrets to Successful Song Writing. It's about 4 minutes of audio and offers some pretty good advice.
The main lessons progress in a coherent manner. The first five lessons present an overview of the notes and are supposed to be very basic, but might go too quickly for a true beginner. The next four lessons give the ‘secret’ patterns that are promised. The following four lessons teach about picking out patterns in music and give the final ‘advanced secret’ playing patterns. PianobyPattern.com receives 2 out of 5 stars for its features since the lessons do not offer any visual aids besides the animated keyboard.
If this course was a little less expensive we would probably give it a better overall review but at $67.67 we feel you can get a lot more for your money with many of the other learn piano courses available.
